The Pediatric Toxicological Center was founded in 1997 on the basis of the toxic-intensive care unit of the “Hayq” Medical Center.
The clinical focus of the service is clinical toxicology. The center is the educational base for the departments of military therapy and family medicine of YSMU.
The only toxicological pediatric center in the Republic of Armenia serves children with various poisonings: medicinal, chemical, poisonous herbs, mushrooms, home toxins, snake venom, scorpions, insects, oil products and other substances, as well as intensive therapy for children aged 1-18 years.
The clinic is equipped with the following options for detoxification, laboratory research and therapeutic measures:
- gastrointestinal, skin, eye detoxification (decontamination),
- emergency and continuous life-support measures (endotracheal intubation, supporting and controlling artificial respiration, parenteral fluid insertion, drug therapy, defibrillation);
- continuous cardiovascular control (ECG, monitoring pulse pressure and other vital functions);
- X-ray, ultrasound, gastroscopy,
- laboratory tests
- specific toxicological laboratory tests (determination of MetHb and carboxy HB in the blood, qualitative analyzes, determination of acetylcholinesterase, determination of various drugs and heavy metals in the blood and urine)
- plasmapheresis, abdominal dialysis, detoxification and symptomatic treatment
