In 1982, the Clinic of Endocrinology was founded in the Pediatric Hospital N4 by E. Pashinyan. Since 2008 the Clinic of Endocrinology has been supervised by Yelena M. Aghajanova, head of the Department of Endocrinology, YSMU.
The Clinic, which is included in the structure of “Muratsan” Hospital Complex, serves both adults and children.
It is equipped with infusomat, glycated hemoglobin machine (Afinion), continuous glucose monitoring system (Ipro2), ultrasound densitometer (Sahara) and other technical devices.
The clinic has 18 beds and is academic base for Endocrinology Department,YSMU.
Patients whith the following endocrine diseases are examined, diagnosed and treated in the clinic:
- Diabetes mellitus
- Diabetes insipidus
- Thyroid diseases
- Obesity
- Hirsutism,
- Short stature
- Adrenal glands diseases
- Other endocrine diseases
The following is also examined, diagnosed and treated in children:
- Growth retardation and physical underdevelopment
- Sexual underdevelopment and precocious puberty
Diabetes school lessons are regularly organized for children with diabetes, their parents and also for adult patients with diabetes. Since 2016 insulin pump therapy is used for diabetes treatment, also continuous glucose monitoring is available.
Endocrinology clinic of “Muratsan” University Hospital is the only pediatric endocrine clinic in Republic of Armenia, where also the Republican Pediatric Endocrinology Dispensary is functioning. Around 600 children with diabetes mellitus are registered there, as well as children with congenital hypothyroidism, congenital adrenal hyperplasia and growth retardation, precocious puberty.
In 2015 on the base of Endocrinology clinic and Department the Armenian Association of Pediatric Endocrinologists was founded. The activity of association should be directed to develop pediatric endocrinology in Armenia. The founders of the association are Yelena Aghajanova (president), Bayburdyan Gayane, Navasardyan Lusine, Arakelyan Lusine, Markosyan Renata, Issa Freij (head of supervising committee) , Hakobyan Sona (member of supervising committee) . Secretary of the association is Kalantaryan Lusine.
Scientific Activities
Research projects of the clinic are conducted in the following areas:
- Diabetes Mellitus type 1 in children and adolescents, prevalence and specifications of the complications
- The protective effects of embriogenic proteoglycans on the insular apparatus of pancreas
- Role of intestinal microflora in arginase system and etiology of type 1 diabetes
- Causes and prevalence of osteoporosis in different regions of Armenia, osteoporosis in postmenopausal women
- Specificity and prevalence of short stature in Armenia
- Clinicometaboloc, hormonal and bone metabolism features in obesity
- Polyglandular Endocrine Syndromes
- Disorders of sex differentiation

Additional information
By the efforts of doctors of the endocrinology clinic with the support of “Yeraz” Charitable Fund and some donors each year a summer camp for children with diabetes is organized.
With the support of “Yeraz” Charitable Fund regular cultural events for children with diabetes are organized on November 14 (World Diabetes Day) and on June 1 (World Children’s Day).
